The firing of controversial British presenter Pierce Morgan from ITV due to his negative attitude towards Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has led to a collapse of ratings for the morning show Good Morning Britain. According to the Daily Mail, every day fewer and fewer viewers watch the program without Morgan’s participation.
According to the newspaper, now the morning episodes are gaining less than a million viewers, although the last broadcast of the program with Morgan’s participation gathered about 1.15 million viewers. The outflow was about 255 thousand people – the last issues were watched by less than 900 thousand viewers.
It is also noted that the last episode with the participation of the presenter allowed ITV for the first time in history to overtake the morning program of its main competitor – the BBC TV channel. However, statistics have confirmed that since then, each new issue, released on weekdays, attracts less and less viewers. Morgan hosted Good Morning Britain Monday through Wednesday.
Morgan quit after criticizing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Good Morning Britain. The host was outraged by statements of racism and pressure from the royal family. The couple spoke about this in an interview with Oprah Winfrey for the American CBS channel.
Harry, speaking with Winfrey, said that during Megan’s first pregnancy, some members of the royal family expressed concerns about the skin color of their unborn child. Markle, in turn, admitted that she was contemplating suicide due to harassment in the British press.
