London Mayor and British Interior Minister criticized police for using force in protests

London Mayor Sadiq Khan and British Interior Minister Priti Patel criticized police for their work against violence in the capital. Law enforcement officers used force to detain several participants.

“Scenes from Clapham Common are not allowed. Police must enforce coronavirus laws. However, from the footage that I saw, it is clear that the actions of the police were both unjustified and disproportionate, ”the mayor wrote on Twitter.

Ms Patel said the footage from the protest was “upsetting.” “I asked the police for a full report on what happened,” the British Interior Minister wrote on Twitter.

People gathered for a demonstration over the murder of 33-year-old Sarah Everard. A Scotland Yard employee is suspected of a crime. In the afternoon, Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton, came to the action. In the evening, the police announced that the participants did not observe social distance and demanded to disperse.
