Islamist militants in Mozambique execute children in front of their mothers, one of the victims was only 11 years old. This is reported by the human rights organization Save the Children on its website.
The organization spoke with families fleeing clashes in the northern province of Cabo Delgado. One of the women told human rights defenders that gunmen beheaded her older 12-year-old son near the place where she was hiding with three other children: “We could not do anything, because we would have been killed too.”
Another mother said that the gunmen killed her 11-year-old son, and she could not even say goodbye to him and hold a normal funeral, as she was forced to flee with other children to a neighboring village. The human rights organization stressed that because of the ongoing hostilities, about 670 thousand people were forced to leave their homes. Moreover, almost a million people were on the verge of starvation.
The armed conflict in the province of Cabo Delgado began in 2017. Since mid-2018, the Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia) terrorist group has become more active in the north of the country. Recently, attacks by Islamists have become more frequent, at least 2,600 people have become victims of the conflict.
